Duncan Flintoff, Manager of GIS Services at R. G. Miller Engineers, has earned certification as a GIS Professional by the GIS Certification Institute (GISCI), a nonprofit organization that “fosters rigorous professional and ethical standards, community engagement and professional mentoring within the GIS industry.” GIS is a spatial system that creates, manages, analyzes, and maps all types of data. GISP is an international certification program designed to promote proficiency of GIS professionals. The certification process involves testing and the submission of a portfolio demonstrating an applicant’s education, work experience, and contributions to the GIS community.
Duncan has more than 30 years of experience in civil engineering, both in the U.S. and in his native UK. He began work at RGME in 2003, starting as a civil engineering designer. In 2008, he developed a market-leading GIS product and created a new market sector. RGME’s GIS technology is currently used by Municipal Utility Districts for asset management and most recently to assist land developers with property searches and due diligence for RGME’s Real Estate Services group.
As a member of the international GIS community, Duncan takes every opportunity to promote GIS, such as through presentations at conferences. With his GISP certification, Duncan will continue to lead the GIS services group as they extend the power of geospatial technologies.
