Early last year, R. G. Miller Engineers completed work on an extensive project that began some 18 years earlier. The Villages of Cypress Lakes, located just off Cypress Rose Hill Road north of Highway 290, is an 850-acre planned community of single-family homes within Harris County Municipal Utility District 391.
The project was developed in several phases with design of the first section of residential and plant facilities beginning in early 2002. RGME has designed 34 sections currently consisting of more than 2,500 homes with ultimate plans to build up to 2,600 homes.
Project design involved a number of amenity rich components, including multiple large detention basins, lake amenity basins, multiple recreational centers and hiking trails.
Three of the lake amenity basins were constructed along the channel of Dry Creek, a tributary of Cypress Creek. This system of basins constitutes one of the last major in-line detention facilities designed and constructed in Harris County. The use of in-line detention, which expanded an existing channel, resulted in additional acreage that could be developed, maximizing lot yield. It also was in keeping with the natural drainage of the area.
“It has been a privilege for R. G. Miller to have been involved in the Villages of Cypress Lakes from its inception,” said Andrew Paderanga, P.E., RGME Principal and Vice President of Operations. “It’s a beautiful community, and we are proud to have contributed to the development of its many amenities.”
